Patan (also known as Lalitpur) is located a short 20min drive from Kathmandu and is the second largest city in Kathmandu valley. It houses the residence of the former Patan royal family and its Durbar Square is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The square is filled with numerous temples, shrines, statues and stone sculptures and is often said to provide the most visually stunning examples of Newari architecture and culture to be seen anywhere in Nepal.
On the Patan Day Tour you will visit the Royal Palace with its three main courtyards, Mul Chowk, Sundari Chowk and Keshav Narayan Chowk. You will also visit other major attractions like Krishna Temple, Bhimsen Temple and the Golden Temple of Hiranya Varna, all excellent examples of Newari craftsmanship.
Patan is also a great place to explore the alleyways, shop for local crafts and souvenirs or enjoy a coffee or meal in one of the many restaurants and cafes. Being so close to Kathmandu, this is a great short tour that provides a fascinating glimpse into some of Nepal’s unique history and culture.
Pick up from your Kathmandu hotel at around 9.00am and drive by private car to Patan arriving around 10.30am. Visit the famous Patan Durbar Square with is palace, temples and shrines before exploring the interesting streets and alleys. Following lunch in one of the many cafes and restaurants, we return to our vehicle for the return trip to Kathmandu, arriving around 1.00pm.
