Trip Overview

The Renjo La Pass and Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek from Phaplu provides an excellent alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek.  The trek is designed to give trekkers the opportunity to interact with the ethnic groups such as Khaling Rais, Sherpas, Magars, Bishwokarmas, Tamangs and Gurungs in the many villages along the way.

On this route you will enjoy magnificent scenery and pass some of the worlds highest mountains including of Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7855m), Pumori (7161m), Ama Dablam (6856m) and Thamserku (6723m) to name a few.

Your adventure begins with a short flight from Kathmandu to Phaplu. The trek then follows the Nunthala route with overnight stays in the villages of Nunthala (2200m), Bupsa (2350m), Surkey (2400m) and Phakding (2652m) where you can enjoy the hospitality of the local people before moving on to Namche Bazaar (3440m). The route then follows the traditional EBC trek to Tengboche (3867m), Dingboche (4260m), Lobuche (4930m) and finally to EBC (5,364m) before returning to Gorakshep (5170m) to make the ascent of Kalapatthar (5545m). After enjoying spectacular views of Everest from Kalapatthar, the trek descends to Pheriche (4243m) for an overnight stay before continuing downhill with overnight stops in Tengboche, Namche Bazaar and Lukla (2886m) before our flight back to Kathmandu.

This is a challenging trek achieving altitudes of over 5,000m but the rewards make the effort more than worthwhile. It is an excellent trek for those wishing to experience the culture and diversity of the local ethnic groups while enjoying the splendour and beauty of the legendary Mt Everest and the surrounding majestic snow-capped peaks of the famous Everest region. It won’t disappoint.
